IPL 2022: Kevin Pietersen blames KKR’s poor performance for next season

Kevin Pietersen on Kolkata Knight Riders: Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen believes that the constant changes in the playing XI are the main reason behind the disappointing performance of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2022. The Shreyas Iyer-led side have won just six of their 13 matches so far this season. In such a scenario, Kolkata will have to win a big win over Lucknow Super Giants to keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.

Kolkata have used five new opening pairs this season and will need a new opening pair in the match against Lucknow after Ajinkya Rahane was ruled out due to injury. On the Cricket Live show on Star Sports, Peterson said, “The main reason for KKR’s disappointing performance is the many changes, because the players feel that this is their last match, which will require them to perform, otherwise they may go out. It is not appropriate to constantly change this format I don’t think playing in this format builds confidence in the players.

“Players want to know that they have more opportunities, they need to feel like you’re giving them confidence, and I don’t think you’ll give them confidence if you make a lot of changes,” Peterson added.

Lucknow, on the other hand, is a great team this season, but the KL Rahul-led team could not make it to the playoffs after losing to Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals in a row. Peterson pointed out that Lucknow could not take risks at the end of the tournament, especially when the three could reach the playoff spots.
