USA New York Buffalo supermarket shooting, many killed

New York shooting: Several people were shot dead Saturday afternoon at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. A gunman has been arrested, police said. Ten people were killed in a shooting at a top-friendly market. Governor Kathy Hochul tweeted that she was in contact with authorities about the incident at a grocery store in her hometown of Buffalo.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said the shooter had been arrested. He was wearing a helmet. He said the death toll was 10 and three people were injured. The police officer said that most of the victims were blackbirds. Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said the gunman first shot four people in the parking lot of the supermarket, killing three of them, then went inside and continued firing.

Among those killed in the store was a retired police officer working as an armed security guard. The shooter aimed a gun at his neck when police arrived at the scene, but spoke to him and eventually surrendered, the police commissioner said.

Stephen Belongia, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Buffalo Field Office, said the shooting was being investigated as a hate crime. “We are investigating this incident as a hate crime,” he said.
